What disipline are these wheels meant for?

Freeride/Sliding

Pros about the wheel?

Best slide I've ever had, and I've ridden tons of wheels. I prefer the slide over butterballs, 74.5 These wheels, Nersh Candies, and all downhill wheels. Buttery as hell and such a smooth slide.

Cons about the wheel?

I've had them chunk on my friends board, but I've never had the problem. Other than that, literally nothing. These are money.

Favourite thing?

The slide, it's orgasmic.

How much were they and where did you get them?

$35 dollars and I got them at a local skate shop.

How long do they last?

Not as long as these wheels or anything, but not generally short. In a really hot day, I've scrubbed off 8-10mm in a single session (3-4 Hours).

How are they for sliding/freeride?

The best. Don't get anything else.

How are they for downhill?

I wouldn't recommend it, unless your balls are the size of planets.

What are some pros about the Earthwing Supermodel?

The Earthwing is very stable, and can run low trucks with no chance of wheelbite, even on 76mm wheels. It has comfy concave, great for commuting.

Cons?

Isn't as great at sliding as other boards are. Can crack easily.

Favourite thing about this deck?

The fact that it's drop-through. Good addition to my quiver.

Describe the concave/camber/etc of the Supermodel.

Basic concave, just a simple "bowl". No W. Makes it very comfortable.

How is the durability?

It has several cracks on the ends, and on the sides, however I believe they are from a 60mph encounter with a curb.

Approx wheelbase/effective foot platform?

Good sized foot platform, great variability for all sized riders. The wheelbase is 30".

Approx how big wheels can you run?

The biggest I ran were 76mm, and there was a TON of room left.

How is the board for freeride/slide?

Decent. The fact that it is drop-through and longer means that it wont be as great as other boards, but it has pretty sharp edges, so it's good for digging your heels into.

How is the board for downhill?

Good, i've taken it to 55 mph, and it's very stable. I was running indy 215 trucks as well, which are notoriously twitchy at high-speeds.

How is the board for freestyle?

Decent, it has small areas (I'd say 1.5-2" long) on the tails for popping the board up. You can easily do tiger claws, etc.

How heavy is the Supermodel?

Deck alone, it is generally lighter than other boards with 8plys of maple. Possibly due to the fact that it's drop through and has grab-rails.

Where did you get it and how much?

Muirskate and for $100 dollars. Well worth the money!

Buzzed v1 with volante checkers.

How is the concave?
AMAZING. The rocker pockets are fantastic.
How is it for freeride/sliding?
The wheelbase, at 29"-30" is a great size for fast freeriding, but not for putsing.

How is it for downhill?
Really comfy in a tuck and predrifts.

Favourite thing about the board?
The rocker pockets!

Any problems?
Small chip in the nose, but overall build quality is solid.

Would you recommend this board?
Yes! Mostly for more experienced riders.

Shoutouts?
To five mile for making rad decks!

The symmetrical standing platform lends itself to comfort on top of the deck when switching directions. Despite the overall directional shape, I have no problem riding switch and doing frontside or backside slides in either stance. Additionally, while the deck is 10” wide, the concave only runs 9.5” of the overall width (.25” of gas pedal on both sides). This gives the rider plenty of leverage on the toeside and heelside rails without requiring them to move their feet around. From this comes faster combos and better freeriding.

The Mullet has proven itself in both of the two slide jams I have taken it to.
- 1st Place Tie at Skateday Bloody Skateday III presented by Confederate Skateboard Army
- 1st Place at Race for Research Slide Jam presented by the South Alabama Longboard Team

How is it for downhill?

I love the deck for downhill. I feel very secure and comfortable in a tuck. Between both the 24.5” and 27” wheelbase, the rider has plenty of options for a variety of situations and courses. Either way, he or she will enjoy the spacious amount of effective foot platform. The gas pedal rails make pre drifting a breeze. The fact that the beveled rails run the entire length of the deck means the rider is unrestricted in where their feet can go when using the gas pedals.

Describe the concave of the Mullet.

This deck features Incline's signature concave. There is a moderately sized flat section in the middle of the deck which rises to a height of 1/2" as it approaches the edges of the board. There is also a slight amount of rocker throughout the length of the deck measuring in at 1/4". Whereas this isn't the most prevalent feature underfoot, it is there. A slight upturn in the nose of the board and an additional upturn angle in the length of the tail are evidence of the rocker.

This concave design is smart for a couple of reasons; the first being that it provides the rider with excellent boardfeel without making his/her feel cramped or constricted.

I've found that I get just the amount of locked-in feeling I need, but not so much that I feel trapped in place. I have no problems keeping myself grounded to the deck while riding downhill in a tuck or while freeriding. Whether I'm going for fast held out slides or doing a lot of spins and changing direction, I always know where my feet are and have confidence that they'll stay there. That feeling is coupled with knowing I can move my feet to any position I need to without sacrificing comfort or leverage.

How is the durability?

The deck is incredibly durable. It has held up incredibly well to curbing, highsiding, and being flipped over while using the tail. After almost 6 months of intense riding and competition, the only damage to the deck is lost paint, a few scrapes, and slight wear from dragging the tail during manuals. There is no sign of delamination.

What is your favourite thing about the deck?

I would have to say my favorite thing about the deck is the big, long, wide kicktail. It greatly increases the versatility of the deck and opens up a whole new world of possibilities when riding.

It’s hard to isolate a single feature as my favorite, though. I’d actually submit that my favorite thing about the deck is how it ties together each of its features into a handsome and functional board.

Any problems?

None at all.

How is the kicktail for tailslides and freestyle?

The kicktail is perfect for all around use. It is much more functional than the smaller, skinny upturns one would find on many of today’s kicktailed freeriding decks. While it is not completely angled like a traditional kicktail, the upturn at the end in combination with its length give the rider just as much leverage. I’ve found the tail works great for backside and frontside bluntslide 180’s and checks. It also does well in pulling off freestyle moves like manuals, shovits, no complies, ollies, and kickflips.

Shoutouts?

A shoutout to Incline Longboards for making awesome decks. I hope the company continues to grow and find success.

The Rayne Supreme is amazing for freeriding because it is symmetrical and has very complex concave. Let's look at the concave in more detail.

Concave: The Supreme's 3 stage rocker feels amazing. It locks your feet and legs in naturally to ensure no slipping while sliding. There are also 5/8" radial drops which creates a really nice pocket. The sharp edges and concave finish everything off. There are even tiny gas pedals to help with those toesides.

The wheelbase of the Supreme is long enough for some serious downhill. Choose between 30" or 31". Cruising and carving is a little less responsive with the longer wheelbase but dancing is really fun.

The kicks are functional and really good size. A little small for tail slides and blunt slides but it can happen. Also, the whole board is big but not too heavy which is good for freetsyle.

You can run up to 72mm wheels without risers and not get wheelbite depending on your weight.

The Rayne Supreme is definitely a sick board. If you have any questions, post below!

The Honey Chameleon is one of the highest quality double-kicked freeride boards. It has 7 thick plies which make it about as stiff as a regular 9 ply board. There is minimal flex which make it great for freeride and downhill. The kicks are super functional too.

Concave: The concave on the Honey Chameleon is very deep. There is more than enough cave to lock your feet in during big slides. It is also comfortable for commuting long distances.

The Chameleon features about a 26" wheelbase. Most people wouldn't consider it a designated downhill board but you can still take it up to very high speeds. This smaller wheelbase also lets the board mover quickly and freely. Shuv-its come naturally too, especially with the big, circular kicks. The tails also work for blunt slides and tail slides.

You can rock 70mm wheels loosely without risers and not get wheelbite because of the nice wheel wells. You may start to need risers if you go over 75mm.

I would definitely recommend this board to people who want a board that can freeride, freestyle, and light DH. It is definitely a board with more concave. The high quality and craftsmanship is definitely worth the price. Shoutouts to the dudes at Honey!

Tell us a little about Nevada Decks.

Nevada decks is a small company that strives to change the average longboard and produce decks that are totally new and original!

Describe the concave.

This deck has just the right amount of concave to make you feel totally locked in and still feel comfortable to stand on! You can't go wrong with 5/8''!

Favourite thing about the Sand Shark?

My favorite thing about the Sand Shark has to be the raised wheel wells. They act as a nice footstop and help you find exactly where you are on your deck without having to look down. These wheel wells also give you a lot more clearance so you can run bigger wheels and not have to worry about wheelbite. Not to mention they look pretty darn snazzy!

Any problems?

Nothing really, the deck itself is a tad bit heavy but that is definitely made up with the strength and durability of the deck.

How is the quality?

Awesome! This deck can really hold its own. It's really strong and can take quite the beating without even having to worry about delams or cracks!

Anything else you want to tell us about the deck?

The deck only costs 120 bucks! A great price for a great deck. Check it out!

Shoutouts?

Shoutout to Tim Schaefer, he is the owner of Nevada Decks and makes them all!

Describe the concave.

The concave is amazing. I'm coming from a Clutch Doubletap (another amazing board) and the way the concave felt to me was sort of uncomfortable, I didn't like that the concave stopped before the drop. The tempest has concave that continues all the way through the drop, making the perfect pockets, and it gives you so many options on comfortable foot placement. The board also has an extremely minor W concave, when pushing you literally cannot feel the W at all, but then, the second you push out for a slide, its there. I'm still working on toesides and this has improved my confidence a bunch, I have tried moving my foot over the W during a toeside and it doesn't, the W just locks it there. Overall the concave on this board is incredible, and I commend the men over at Nelson for it.

How are the kicks?

The kicks are another awesome feature. I've ridden a Kebbek John Barnet and the kicks did not work at all, they were basically pointless, because they were too vertical. It was like a wall for your foot. These kicks however are amazing, they casually build into the kick, making for a perfect feel under my feet. I mainly got the kicks for popping off curbs and manuals, they are perfect for both. I can easily dodge people and animals my just hopping off a curb really quick, with out scraping everything up and eating cement. My manuals have also practically tripled in length, it is so easy to just hold the board up while riding.

Favourite thing about the board?

My favorite thing about this board would have to be the size. It's a bit shorter than some of the drop boards on the market and it fits my stance perfectly. On my doubletap I felt as if I was in a battle stance every time I would go to slide. With the Nelson Tempest, my feet are in the pockets, and every slide is amazing.

Any problems with the board?

Coming with the size is the shorter wheelbase, although it is better for just whipping the board around and being nimble, it is not so great for going fast. The Tempest would not be a go to downhill board, although that's not what its made for, so it is not a big deal

Anything else you want to tell us about the Nelson Tempest?

The design is awesome if that matters to anyone. Basically, if you are in the market for a drop deck, or a deck with tails, buy this board. Don't consider any other board, nelsonlongboards.com Go. Now

Shoutouts?

Shoutout to Nelson longboards, and Ansell for buying my Dtap so I could buy this board.

The Sector 9 Mini Shaka is a great board for it's price. The deck isn't too special, just the regular double kick freeride shape. Let's go into some details about the features.

Concave: The concave and rocker on the Mini Shaka is a little bit mellow and pretty basic. It is really comfortable but it may not feel like it locks you in enough while doing any faster riding. This can be fixed by adding some gnarly griptape. You can also add some sweet 3D concave really easily to meet your concave needs.

Kicktails: The kicktails on the Sector 9 Mini Shaka are pretty small and basic. They are not oversized and are pretty durable. They aren't the best for freestyle but you can still use them to pop up and down curbs and things like that.

Overall the Mini Shaka is cheap and great for beginners. It is definitely an all around board.

Pros

If you are looking to get sideways, Volante Checkers are perfect for you. This Comet and Caliber combo really packs a punch when it comes to sliding and freeride. They have a really nice, buttery, and controllable slide. Very predictable. You can also leave some sick thane lines with the Checkers. These wheels are the perfect size and have the perfect freeride thane.

Cons

Although Volante Checkers are really fun, they did not receive a 10/10 because they core pretty quickly. These wheels can also flatspot pretty bad if you hold your slide at 90 degrees for too long, especially if you are a heavier rider. However, this is a small price to pay for really fun slide and freeride wheels.

The Nelson Stingray is a great freeriding topmount. It has many wonderful features which allow it to do awesome things. Here is a bit about some of those features:

Concave: The 3D wheel wells keep your feet locked in. It works with the amazing concave to create nice little pockets so your feet don't slide off during huge standies. There is a nice mellow W in the back which helps a lot for anything toeside and is mellow enough so that pushing long distances is fine.

Adjustable Wheelbases: You can go anywhere from a 24" wheelbase to a 28" wheelbase on the Nelson Stingray. This is great because you can adjust the wheelbase depending on what you are shredding. Putting the front wheelbase at the innermost option gives you a nice little nose which I really enjoy.

Kicktail: The kicktail on the Nelson Stingray KT is very comfy. It has great pop for freestyle tricks and is big so you have lots of room for tail slides.

The Stingray is 8 ply which makes it not too heavy for popping tricks but it is stable enough to do some downhill runs. Skating bowls is a nice experience on this board too. It can pretty much do everything!

*Do you have a Nelson Stingray? If so, post your set up below!

Comet Takeover Rider Review

First of all I just want to say this board is sick! It is a great freeride shape with less taper so it seems more symmetrical. Here we have a rider review from Henry.

Freeride/Slide - 9/10 (what this deck is for)
Downhill - 7/10
(it's not the best choice but it's viable)
Cruise/Carve - 4/10 (there
are far better cruising boards, carving I guess is fine)
Freestyle -
4/10 (get a board with kicks if thats what you want to do)

1. How is the board for freeride/sliding?

That's primarliy what I got it
for. If you like a mellower concave than this board is great. The front biased
rocker is pretty nice, and the flushmount gets rid of awkward wedging. The
wheelbase is nimble but not sketchy (important considering this is a board you
won't redrill). One thing I like is the minimal amount of taper, especially
cause I have pretty big feet. Also the Takeover leaves plenty of room for
homemade 3D cave.

2. How is the board for downhill?

It's fine.
It's not a dedicated downhill board so it doesn't feel as good in a tuck as some
more speed-oriented boards I've ridden, but it works.

3. How
functional is the tail (if you want to call it that) for freestyle and tailslides?

It's enough for shuvs
and manuals, not the best for ollies or blunt slides. Some people can blunt it
pretty good but I don't feel it. If you're more into that type of thing the
Daisy is probably a better choice.

4. Describe the
concave.

Mellow. It's a great canvas for 3D if you don't like mellow cave.
Personally, I like mellow, so whatever. The rocker in the front of the deck
feels nice for sliding, not so much for tucking. It forces my foot to more of a
parallel angle to the board then I'd like.

5. What is your favourite
feature of the deck?

The mellower concave and huge EFP. Lots of taper
sucks.

6. Any problems or dislikes about the board?

The
Flushmounting is cool in that it gets rid of natural wedging, but it does sorta
suck that redrilling becomes inviable, but the 27" wheelbase is perfectly fine.
My biggest beef with the deck is the wheelwells are designed around Calibers, so
bite can be kind of an issue with other trucks. So if you aren't rollin' on
Calibers cut your own wells or run smaller wheels/more riser.

7. Anything
else you want to tell us?

Run a footstop. Yeah.

8.
Shoutouts?

Redlands California, the land of the homies

This review will be for 78a, 81a, and 84a Abec 11 Flashbacks. You may be wondering why there is a score for both grip and slide because they are two contrasting things. Read more to find out!

Abec 11 Flashbacks are a great all around wheel. You can pretty much do anything with them. These wheels were once used a lot in the downhill world. Nowadays they are used mostly for faster freeride. Here is some basic information on the slide and grip of these wheels.

Grip: Abec 11 Flashbacks have a square lip which makes them grippy. As I mentioned above, they were once used as a common downhill wheel. Some people today still use them for downhill. Riders don't use them as much now for downhill because many new wheels have come out that are wider and more grippy. Flashbacks are great for cruising/carving wheels because they are 70mm and will grip on rougher pavement. 84a Flashbacks are a little slidier than usual but better on skatepark type pavement. Most people prefer 78a or 81a for slides and downhill. 75a Flashbacks are also really nice, soft, and grippy.

Slide: Abec 11 Flashbacks are amazing for freeride, especially for faster freeriding. This is because they have a really controlled slide. Classic Abec 11 thane is just super buttery. You have to kick out a little harder compared to round lipped wheels but you have more control while going faster on rougher pavement on these square lips. The softer versions of these wheels shed thane fast and can flatspot easily, especially if you are heavier. Flashbacks have a pretty small core so you have more thane to burn comapred to other wheels like the Abec 11 Freerides. Flashbacks are also somewhat cheap.

Abec 11 Flashbacks have been around for a really long time. They are a go-to wheel for any beginner or advanced rider. Definitely check them out! If you have any questions about Abec 11 Flashbacks, feel free to post below or on our Facebook page. Thanks for reading!

Abec 11 Freerides - Wheel Review

Our first wheel review on Vital Media Co will be for the Abec 11 Freerides! This review covers the 78a, 81, and 84a versions. It also covers the 72mm and 66mm wheels. These wheels are definitely a classic!

Slide

These wheels can pretty much be described with one word. Slide. Abec 11 Freerides are great for beginners learning to slide and are also great for more advanced riders who want a smooth, long slide. This is not unusual because soft classic thane is just great and the round lipped wheels allow for an easy kick out. 84a freerides are a little more on the icy side but are good if you want to do more technical slides or if you are a light rider.

Little Problems

Although these wheels are amazing for sliding, they do have some little problems. The thane wears very fast and can easily flatspot if you tend to hold your slides at 90 degrees, especially if you weight a little more. Also, the cores can make taking out bearings a little annoying.

Personally I wouldn't downhill on these wheels unless the course was perfectly straight or something because turns can be drifty with Abec 11 freerides. This is the same with cruising/carving. You can easily accidently slide out on freerides while taking a turn, espeicially on rougher pavement.

I would definitely check these wheels out. If you are interested in similar wheels that have more grip, check out Abec 11 Flashbacks. Thanks for reading and post any questions below!

Kebbek has given everyone a little sneak peak of their new 2013 lineup. The graphics are looking sick! Check it out.
The board at the top of this page is the refreshed Smoothcut 37. Looking pretty sexy!

This next board is the Kebbek Blacktop. Looks like a new batter in the 2013 Kebbek lineup. Seems like it has a mighty fine drop. Can't wait to hear more about this deck.

Also new to the Kebbek 2013 lineup is the Kebbek Snaker. Looks like a Rockin' Rookie alternative. Might even be a Rayne Vandal alternative. It seems to feature many adjustable wheelbases which would be nice. EDIT: Thanks to our fans who told us this is a new slalom board. It can also be set up as a sick park ripper. (Thanks Alex L)

Last but not least we have a new graphic on the 2013 Kebbek Kootenay. A very clean and simple graphic. I just love it!

We can't wait to review these boards in the future!

Today we bring you guys a rider review of the Original Arbiter 36 longboard.

Check out what Adam H rated the board and what his thoughts on the deck were.

1. How is the board for freeride/sliding?

The Arbiter was quite surprising for freeride when I start skating it. From looking at it, the concave looked incredibly mellow, and didn't look as if it would lock me in, but once you hop on it, it will keep you locked in! With wheelbase options for most riders, it will be freeridable by all. The hard rail is surprising good for toesides, I learnt toeside checks in a few days on my Arbiter as well as Blunt slides using its Tub concave kick.

2. How is the board for downhill?

I was always excited with the prospect of skating an Original board for downhill, but their just wasn't the right board yet. I got a chance to head to some local hills a few weeks after I got it, and it was super comfortable to rail corners with. The hard rail means you can really dig your toe in if you need some leverage around a corner for a quick check or predrfit. Ive taken it to around 75km/h so far and hoping to push it even further. This deck has all the features of a great DH board.

3. How functional is the tail for freestyle and tailslides?

A Tub concave ending in a Cereal bowl kick? Whaaaaaaaaaat?! Yeah that was pretty much my reaction when I first saw this board in September. It's a great idea and a very practical one at that. I love the little kick on the Original Arbiter. It is very usable on the innermost mounting brackets, and can be used like any kick. Shuvits are no problem when freestyling and I managed to learn blunt slides in a week using the Arbiter's unique kick. Its functionality is unreal and unexpected when you see just the picture of it, compared to the actual deck.

4. Describe the concave.

Tub Concave hey? Stood on a Sayshun board with it and couldnt say i fancied it all that much. I always found W and rocker concave to be all you really needed. But I can now see the benefit of a tub concave. It has just the concave right at the edge and almost flat on the platform, so your feet are flat but still remain locked in by the tub. It held me to the deck far better than I had thought it would as it looked mellow and wouldnt be able to hold in my humongous feet, but it magically did.

5. What is your favourite feature of the deck?

Definitely the Cereal bowl kick. That thing is awesome and has made my skating steezier. Its such a nice and different feature to have on a Downhill and Freeride board and definitely creates a rival for the Sector 9 Daisy! (Also a competitor for the Nelson Stingray!)

6. Any problems or dislikes about the board?

It's durability has been alright, nothing special, but it hasnt been any different to any of my other maple decks like my Saltflat, Dragula or Freeride. Maple decks chip and dent when curbed, which has happened to my Arbiter. Doesnt effect the ride at all.

7. Anything else you want to tell us?

USE THE INNER MOUNTING BRACKETS! It makes the board 100 times nicer! You get more turn, more use of the kick, and even the nose for some shuvits here and there.

8. Shoutouts?

Shoutout to Scott Imbrie for the hook up, and Lindsay Jean for getting me and my mate (Development team) our Arbiters ASAP with the Original proto grip.
The new GoPro HD Hero 3 cameras are taking filming to a whole new level. The quality of the HD is at it's best! These small GoPro cameras are definitely very powerful and better yet, they are waterproof and very very tough to break. These HD cameras also feature a new easy to use interface. The release of the three different GoPro HD Hero 3 editions was a great idea on GoPro's part. This makes it so you can choose a GoPro camera based on your price budget. Nonetheless, each HD Hero 3 has amazing quality and can take great pictures too. The three editions ranging from lowest to best are the White Edition, Silver Edition, and Black Edition. If you like fast downhill/freeride and enjoy topmounts, the Bombsquad Pocket Ace is the board for you. Everything you could ever need in a topmount was combined and out shot this board. Hope you enjoy this review. I'm sure you would enjoy the Pocket Ace.

Freeride/Sliding: The Bombsquad Pocket Ace is asymmetrical but it feels pretty close to being symmetrical. There is no taper like most topmounts. In fact, it is a little wider in the back. You can notice it a tiny bit when you are in switch which some people actually prefer but you can't feel much of a difference honestly. The nice wheelwells also allow for most sized freeride wheels and a looser truck/bushing combo.

Concave: The actual concave on this board is a little mellow. However, the amazing W in the middle really helps to lock your feet in, especially during toeside slides. Also, there is no drop on this board. Instead, there are little 3D wheelwells which act as very comfy pockets. Your feet will not slip out and you will have more control over your board. I also love how the W concave is not super sharp so your feet don't cramp up while pushing. After a while it does start to tire though. Oh, almost forgot about the gas pedals. These are small which I like because most people only use them for toesides and giant gas pedals just lessen the concave. They are positioned good but everyone has a difference stance so they may not be in the ideal spot for you personally.

Downhill: You can go very fast on the Bomsquad Pocket Ace. It features two nice wheelbase options. Choose the right one for you. Your feet will stay on the board thanks to the pockets and W, even on rougher pavement. The Pocket Ace also has a formica top and bottom which keeps it light but very stiff and stable. This is a prime downhill board, especially if you like topmounts.

Cruising/Carving: Honestly, this board is not a very good cruiser for obvious reasons. It was not built to cruise and carve. The concave and flex isn't right for it. If you want a cruising board recommended, check out our Facebook page and post there. Vital Media Co: Longboard Reviews: FACEBOOK
Alright, today we have a Churchill Kray longboard deck review for you guys. Like we mentioned in the Churchill Apple longboard review, these decks are so worth it for the price. Don't even think about it, just do it! I'm sure you will love these Churchill boards no matter what!

Freeriding/Sliding: This board shape is similar to the Original Freeride/Beast, Comet FSM, Jet Doppler, Honey Chameleon, etc. This is a standard freeride shape. It is symmetrical so you can ride it well either way. The concave is mellow and comfy. It will definitely lock you in during big slides. We did not give it the full 10 because although it is amazing, it could still be upgraded by maybe adding drops or gas pedals.

Downhill: This board is not meant for downhill but you could still go pretty fast on it. Dropthrough it for a stable/drifty run or topmount it for more controlled/turny runs. The wheelbase is a little small for a downhill board which could make it a little twitchy. The 9 ply USA maple keeps the deck stiff and stable which is a plus.

Cruising/Carving: The Churchill Kray is definitely a comfy cruiser. The concave is not super sharp so your foot doesn't cramp up during long runs. It is also quite low to the ground which makes pushing easier. The somewhat short wheelbase makes it good for carving and pumping.

Freestyle: The double kicks on the Kray are very functional. They are a good size for freestyle tricks. You can even do some tailslides on them. They have such a nice "scoop" to them. You have to try it to know it.

There is a basic review of the Churchill Kray. Post below if you have any questions and they will be answered quickly. Have fun shredding!

Comet Grease Hammer Longboard Review - Submitted by Charles L

What is your current set up?
Grease Hammer, 50 degree Randal 180's, cult classics

Describe the concave.
I really like the grease hammer's concave because it feels really good on your feet and it also locks your foot in so you won't slip

How is it for freeride/downhill?
Very good because I have small feet so it is the perfect size. It slides really easily and is easy to control. The taper in the back is also very nice because I don't have to hang my foot much during runs and I cam switch easily between heelsides and toesides. For downhill the grease hammer is a little sketchy going fast because of it's smaller wheelbase but you can still have lots of fun on it.

What is your favourite thing about the Grease Hammer?
I am a smaller rider and I have small feet so the grease hammer is perfect. If you have larger feet, the Comet Grease Shark would be perfect for you.

Any bad things about the board?
My only concern I have is that I kind of wish the V shaped tail was just square. That way if you wanted you could use the area as a tail or even drill it and make the wheelbase a little longer for downhill.

Anything else about the deck you want to add?
I love this board and would definitely recommend it to people looking for a good freeride/downhill topmount board. It is really comfy for beginners but also can be put to the test by advanced riders. The price is also very great for the quality. Buy the comet grease hammer and go skate!LLuDawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05919094212764321903noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6911965787756518611.post-51929144561209207262012-10-16T19:17:00.001-07:002012-10-16T19:17:12.103-07:00Earthwing Drifter 36 (Rider Review)

Have you ever ridden a board that left you laughing at the end of a run?
The 36 inch earthwing drifter is a blast to ride. I’m glad that I got the 36” drifter, because the pockets are placed just past shoulder width for a tall (6’2”) person. The kicktail pockets are right outside the truck bolts; having my stance outside of the bolts required some adapting. This board requires really good weight distribution, otherwise the front or rear will pick-up in a slide. The pockets feel AMAZING.

They just feel so perfect… especially with the front foot over the bolts and the back foot in the back pocket. There is a huge amount of concave in this popsicle deck, and greatly makes for great pop for ollies. The kicktails are really steep, as you can tell in the picture.

What a great do-everything board. I’ve done technical dh up to 40 mph, slalom, freeriding, cruising, and tech-sliding on the exact same setup:
¼” shock pads, indy 169s, bones hardcore roadside, gator grip with minilogo center (for ollies), and 65mm butterballs.
The butterballs were great.
After 4 sessions, I hit core and they became good for tech-sliding:

As a tall person with big feet, this feels like a great park/pool board too! I can’t wait to take it to the ramps with hard wheels. The smaller drifter is better suited for a shorter rider.
I definitely recommend this board to someone looking for a fun board that will do almost everything with a little technique.

This is a greatly designed board by Phillip Lemire and Landyachtz. Read more to find out about this little hybrid.

The Landyachtz Ripple Ridge is a very comfy board. It features a good amount of concave and rocker for a mini. It also has rippled edges which make cruising and carving very fun and comfortable. It is the perfect sized board to get you to school or the grocery store quickly and is also very light for it's size. The kicktail is a nice size and also has very good pop. You can pop kickflips and tre flips quite easily. The tail is also great for nice little blunt slides. Slap on some smaller sized freeride wheels and have a blast freeriding big hills. You can skate a variety of different terrain with the Landyachtz Ripple Ridge. I would definitely recommend this board. Get it and have tons of fun!
Cruise/Carve: 7/10
76MTV9ATH29P

Downhill: The Original Freeride is not only a freeride board but also a good downhill board. It has a good sized wheelbase to be stable on most race courses around the world. A couple of Original racers have taken this board to high speeds and I know some have finished top 4 in a few races with this board. It has a good agressive concave which locks your feet in. The concave is more flat in the middle and rises up sharply at the sides. The dropthrough lowers the board and keeps it stable and easy to predrift.

Freeride/Sliding: This board is great for freeriding because it is symmetrical. Drop through the deck and it easily slides out or topmount it for controlled grip and slides. Personally, I have smaller feet so the wide platform doesn't appeal much to me. On the rockered Freerides, I have to hang a little when sliding but with the W version, I don't have to hang much. The gas pedals on this board also help when doing slides, especially with toeside slides.

Freestyle: The Original videos featuring this board also feature people doing ridiculous tricks using the Original Freeride. These are tough tricks to do unless you are very experienced at freestyle. These kicks are functional but are not the best. The 41" beasts are pretty heavy and it is a little harder to do freestyle tricks. The smaller 38" ones are better suited to freestyle. There have also been a couple incidents of the tails snapping right off.

Cruising/Carving: The Original Freeride is not a bad cruiser. It can actually be pretty comfortable... that is unless you have a W concave version. The W concave can get a little annoying when pushing long distances. Topmounting the Original Beast will make it a little more responsive if you want a nice carver.

Overall, the Original Freeride is a pretty darn good freerider. It can also be used as a downhill board and freestyle board but the board is not specifically designed for those things. The concave and gas pedals are very comfy. In the end, choose which version of the Original Beast you prefer for the style of riding you are doing. The Landyachtz Switch has been around for quite some time now. It is still an amazing board for the quality of skating that has been going on today. Here is a review of this very versatile board!

Cruise/Carve: 8/10
Freeride/Slide: 9/10
Cruising and Carving: When most people see this tank, they think of it more as a downhill/freeride board. However, not all cruising boards need to be small and flexy. This board has giant drops which make the board very low to the ground. Pushing is very easy which makes cruising easier. It is not as turny as some boards but is very stable and easy to control.

Freeriding and Sliding: Since the board is low, it easily breaks out into a slide because your center of gravity is lower. The drops (gnar bars) really lock you in while doing huge standies. Set this up with some round lipped wheels and you will have a blast. This board can fit bigger wheels too because of it's wheel wells.

Downhill: This board is the regular Switch's little brother. It is a little smaller and less stable when going fast than the regular Switch. It is perfect for smaller people or people with smaller stances. This particular deck is good for runs where you haul ass or for runs with some sharper turns.

Freestyle on this board is not really recommended because first off there is barely a tail, and secondly, the board is somewhat heavy compared to other boards.

I would definitely recommend this board for a beginner or advanced rider because it can do almost anything you want.
The Churchill Apple deck is really nice. It is similar to many boards including the Original Freeride and Comet FSM. The concave is sharp but is a little mellower than most boards. However, the concave is very comfy and really locks you in while doing big standies and bombing hills. Since this board is 9 plies instead of 10 plies like a lot of DH style boards, it is much lighter and better for freestyle tricks. You can do kickflips, bigspins, and long manuals with ease. If you are a heavy rider, you might want to watch out a little because the area where you mount your trucks can be a little flimsy and may snap on you if you early grab big drops or something along those lines. This board is definitely worth it for the cheap price. Even shipping to Canada costs much less than a big brand deck. Churchill is great company!
