Abec 11 Freerides

Abec 11 Freerides - Wheel Review

Our first wheel review on Vital Media Co will be for the Abec 11 Freerides! This review covers the 78a, 81, and 84a versions. It also covers the 72mm and 66mm wheels. These wheels are definitely a classic!

Slide

These wheels can pretty much be described with one word. Slide. Abec 11 Freerides are great for beginners learning to slide and are also great for more advanced riders who want a smooth, long slide. This is not unusual because soft classic thane is just great and the round lipped wheels allow for an easy kick out. 84a freerides are a little more on the icy side but are good if you want to do more technical slides or if you are a light rider.

Little Problems

Although these wheels are amazing for sliding, they do have some little problems. The thane wears very fast and can easily flatspot if you tend to hold your slides at 90 degrees, especially if you weight a little more. Also, the cores can make taking out bearings a little annoying.

Personally I wouldn't downhill on these wheels unless the course was perfectly straight or something because turns can be drifty with Abec 11 freerides. This is the same with cruising/carving. You can easily accidently slide out on freerides while taking a turn, espeicially on rougher pavement.

I would definitely check these wheels out. If you are interested in similar wheels that have more grip, check out Abec 11 Flashbacks. Thanks for reading and post any questions below!
